Oregon Hunting Retriever Club (OHRC)

Sunday February 06, 2011 12:50pm

The Oregon Hunting Retriever Club had their 6 singles event this last weekend.  The 6 Singles is just what the name implies 6 single retrieves.  Each retrieve is judged for how well the dog marks the bird a ten being the best score.  I usually go the event to help and visit with friends but this year I decided to run my dogs and my clients dogs.

The day started out with me being asked to sit in a gun station because the club did have enough help.  Although I didn't want to I did it anyway being a board member and all I feelt obligated.  Sitting in a gun station in the sun or rain for that matter can be pretty boring!  Lucky for me though I had a friend volunteer to sit out there with me...together we were not very helpful as gunners because we were mostly talking and laughing and not paying attention like we should have.  Just like they say, "You get what you pay for."  We had fun though.

Finally after working for a few hours I got to run my dogs.  All of my dog did pretty well and it was GREAT training for them.  One of my dogs, Raider did really well on the first set of marks (the really hard ones).  After the first 3 marks I almost called it quits since the 6 singles are just for fun but I didn't.  I ran Raider and all my dog on the last 3 marks and then waited till the very end to see who won and it was RAIDER!!!  He will now have his named engraved on the club's traveling trophy and his owner is very happy.
