AKC Breeder of Merit

What is a Breeder of Merit?

I am proud to say I recently became an AKC Breeder of Merit.  So what are the requirement to become a Breeder of Merit you ask?

1.  History of at least 5 years involvement with AKC events.  (I have been competing in AKC events since I was in High School)

2. Earned at least 4 conformation, performance, or companion event titles on dogs they bred/co-bred.  (Many of Gussi's puppies have received Junior, Senior, and Master Hunter titles.)

3.  Member of an AKC club. (I have been on the board of the Oregon Hunting Retriever Club for many years.)

4. Certifies that applicable health screens are performed on your breeding stock as recommended by the Parent Club.  (Of Coarse!)

5.  Demonstrates a commitment to ensuring 100% of the puppies are AKC registered.  (Plus I encourage them to compete in AKC events)

Training Tip

Water Work

So you want to work on water but you worried about the cold temperatures?  I suggest doing cheaty water marks. This way you can do water work without your dog being in the water too much.  Set up a nice cheaty water mark and a nice long land mark.  Run the water mark, then run the land mark (warm up mark).  Then (if needed) repeat the water mark.

My Little Brown dog, "Hemi"

The last 30 days have been hard for Hemi and I. I went from entering Hemi in Summer Hunt Tests and getting her ready for her first Agility trial. To sleeping on the floor with her as she quivered in pain. To her feeling better and exercising. To once again taking her to the veterinarian but this time a specialist.
