Private Lessons

Train On Your Own?

Recently, I have been taking classes with my dog, Hemi for agility training. I have to admit classes are not my favorite because the dogs in class are at all different levels and it makes hard. So after the class I just finished I have decided I will take private lessons with Hemi from now on. Many dog sports i.e. Nosework, Rally, Obedience, and Trieball have trainers that offer lessons and classes but it is not as common with retriever training. I want to change that! I believe that people should be able to train their retrievers on their own. To do this most people need a little help from a professional so I offer lessons and occasionally classes and/or workshops.

Don't get me wrong there is a time and a place for in-house retriever training...but if you have the time and patience you can train your dog on your own form gun dog to Master Hunter level. Lessons also help to get your dog on the right path even if you are going to bring them in for in-house training, usually making their stay shorter and making the transition from me (the trainer) to you much easier! Currently, I have a few people and their dogs that come out about once a week and we work with their dogs. It is fun for me to see the dogs advance each week when I see them. If you are interested in private lessons give me a call or email and and we can schedule it. In the mean time I will be taking lessons myself to advance Hemi in Agility so we can compete in the near future.

Upcoming Litter

Rusty MH x Quarter BN RN CGC STAR

This will be Rusty and Quarter's first litter and we expect great things from this litter. Both Rusty and Quarter have excelled at performance events and hunting (Rusty) and we expect nothing but the same from the puppies! These puppies will be great for hunting, Hunt Tests, Agility, Obedience competition, Rally, or just be a nice family pet! Quarter will be bred approximately mid February with puppies due mid April. The puppies will have dew claws removed, be vaccinated, and micro-chipped. They will also be well socialized and exposed to birds. The puppies are selling for $1000.00 and deposits are now being taken. Please call or email for more information. For more information on the litter click here, for more information on Rusty click here.

Training Tip

Refresh Drill Work

Hunt Test season is fast approaching...now is the time to get yours dogs ready! One of my recommendations is to refresh your dog's drill work (yard work) before returning to field training. Revisit your T-Drill or Double T. Make sure your dog is doing a successful T-Drill before taking him out to run blinds. Also don't forget your lining drills! Work on your 4 or 8 bumper wagon wheel before going back out in the field. Your dog's refresher shouldn't take long and you will be back out in the field with your training group in no time! Additionally, please check out this blog I wrote for more information on getting prepared for Hunt Test season.

My Little Brown dog, "Hemi"

The last 30 days have been hard for Hemi and I. I went from entering Hemi in Summer Hunt Tests and getting her ready for her first Agility trial. To sleeping on the floor with her as she quivered in pain. To her feeling better and exercising. To once again taking her to the veterinarian but this time a specialist.
