Cha Ching the Little Brown Thing

Saturday July 09, 2011 01:04am

After hours of labor and hours of delivery, Rosie had only delivered 5 puppies. I knew she had 7 so I decided to load her and her new born puppies up, in the car, and started the hour long drive to Wilsonville Veterinary Clinic. When we arrived, an ultra sound was taken of the two puppies still needing to be delivered. Both puppies had strong heart beats so instead of a casarean section we opted for drugs and more time to help Rosie delver the last two puppies. After a few more hours and lots of veterinarians and technicians coming in to check on Rosie, a little chocolate girl was born. Sadly we lost the last puppy.

After paying the Vet I jokingly named the little chocolate girl Cha Ching because she was only hours old and had already cost me $100’s of dollars. Little did I know that Cha Ching would live up to her name! Being a day younger then the other pups, Cha Ching was much smaller then her siblings. Rosie would lovingly pick her up, with her mouth, and bring her closer to her to eat and keep warm. Sadly Rosie picked her up a little too roughly and tore her skin. So at just a week or so old with her eyes still closed Cha Ching was once again rushed to the vet!

As they took her from my shaking hands, to the back room, the receptionist asked me what her name was. Most people including myself would not have a name for a week old pup, maybe a number or a collar color-but not this little chocolate puppy, her name was Cha Ching! After putting 5 staples in her back the veterinarian sent me home with some antibiotics, a bottle and directions of how I was supposed to feed and or supervise Cha Ching’s feeding for the next 14 days (while the staples were in) every 2-4hours!!! What a chore this was at night I would get up every three hours and sit with her and Rosie while she nursed. During the day when I could not be at home Cha Ching would come with me in a laundry basket with a heating pad and I would feed her and clean her every few hours. It was A LOT of work!

This all happened in the middle of trials. I would show up noticeably tired and would have to explain, to everyone there, how much care I was putting into Cha-Ching. Every weekend people would ask me how she was doing and were pleased to hear about her progress and recovery. When I was too busy, she would go to work with my boyfriend for feedings and all his co-workers got to know her. Soon everyone knew about Cha Ching. I even got asked just the other day how is Cha Ching?

In the midst of feedings and hoping this little puppy would live I told my mom, “If Cha Ching lives you are going to have to keep her.” Cha Ching did live and when she was 8 weeks old my mom took her home. Unfortunately, my mom is getting older and having back troubles so Cha Ching is looking for a new home where she can get the exercise a Labrador needs.

Cha-Ching found her new home and famliy, Paul, Sharon and her new best friend their 8 year old son, Jonah.  The family came to visit Cha Ching and fell in love with her immediately!  I think they had decided they were getting Cha Ching before even visiting because they had already bought her a dog bed and dog toys!  Even though Paul and Sharon wanted to take Cha Ching home that day I wanted to see were she would be living and encouraged them to wait till the following Friday so I could see their home.  Plus waiting gave the family time to get more ready for Cha Ching for example, they had to get a crate and dog food.  Last time I talked to Paul and Sharon Cha Ching was doing well but taking a little advantage of all the love and attention by trying to "train" the family.  I told the family not to let her get away with too much!

She is a good dog and we are lucky to have her! She is definitely "training" us and we are trying to figure out where we draw the line. The getting up at 3:30 or 4 am to let her out is getting old really quickly so we are going to work on that one first. :) We really love her and are thankful that we found her!! Thanks again!

The last 30 days have been hard for Hemi and I. I went from entering Hemi in Summer Hunt Tests and getting her ready for her first Agility trial.
