Forstering Dogs

Most of my childhood my family had a dog, but there was a point in time when we didn't. During this time I had a lot of dogs "follow me home". One in particular was this very cute, small but a little chubby, chocolate Labrador. I can't remember her name but I do remember how hard my parents worked to find her owners and how much I wished she would stay with us! After a few days of staying with us, me falling in love with her and my mom making a ton of phone calls her owners where found.
Dogs don't "follow me home" anymore, but I do occasionally foster dogs. There are many reasons to foster a dog. Maybe they are in a shelter and not doing well in that environment. Maybe you can't have a dog at this time but would like to spend some time with one. Maybe you just have extra time and love to give to an animal in need. I foster dogs and help owners with adopted dogs (for free or a very reasonable price) because I feel as breeder I need to give back to the Labrador Retriever breed as well as dogs in general.
The last dog I fostered was a Pit Bull Labrador mix named Paisley. I will admit Paisley was a lot of work for me for two reasons; One her and my other dog did not get along. Two, being a Pit Bull didn't make her the most marketable dog! I met Paisley when the local animal shelter called me because they had a dog in the shelter that had been there almost a year and was not doing well. I took one look at Paisley and could tell she was a smart sweet dog and just needed to get out of the shelter environment. I took her home quickly after that and soon fell in love with her. Like I said before it wasn't all roses and rainbows when I had Paisley (most not her fault at all) I even shed a tear or two over people who would have been the perfect home for her, but couldn't get over the fact the she was Pit Bull mix. Finally, Paisley found a great home and I gained some GREAT new friends (her new owners).
Currently, I am fostering Sunny a sweet yellow Labrador who just can't seem to find the right the family. She is fun to have around, because she is young so she still has many fun puppy traits but she is already crate trained and potty trained. For more information on Sunny click here or call me at 503 522 9896.

My Little Brown dog, "Hemi"
The last 30 days have been hard for Hemi and I. I went from entering Hemi in Summer Hunt Tests and getting her ready for her first Agility trial. To sleeping on the floor with her as she quivered in pain. To her feeling better and exercising. To once again taking her to the veterinarian but this time a specialist.
